Richard William Thoroe, age 74 of Itasca, beloved husband of Renee; loving father of Richard, Michael (Ursula), Kristin (Jason) Kaplan, and Eric; cherished grandfather of Ethan Kaplan, Camden, and Aviana Thoroe; the loving son of the late Iwer and Frieda Thoroe.
 
Richard was born in Chicago on 26 October 1949. He attended Lane Technical High School, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968, and served in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division from 1969 to 1970. He completed his service in 1972 with Marine Detachment CINCLANTFLT as an Orderly for ADM Charles K Duncan. He graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago Circle with a degree in accounting. In 1970, he married Renee and eventually settled in Itasca to start a family.
 
Richard was a devoted and beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America as an adult leader, hiking across the Grand Canyon, among several other high-adventure trips. He was a dedicated supporter of the many sports and activities of his children and grandchildren.
He was an avid reader, stamp collector, and amateur historian with a particular interest in the US Civil War and World War II. Later in life, he was active in the local VFW and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Visitation on Sunday, January 21st from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday, January 22nd from 8:00 am until the time of funeral 9:30 am. to St. Peter the Apostle Church. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Interment following at 1:00 p.m. Abraham Lincoln Cemetery.
