Biography

On Sunday August 21st, 2022, Mieczyslaw “Mike” Strusinski, 98, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Mike was borne June 29th, 1924, in Barcikowo, Poland as one of four children to Tadeusz and Stanislawa Strusinki. He was displaced from Poland to Germany at age 15 where he subsequently found the love of his life. Mike and Stanislawa “Stella” Brzeski were married in 1947 and two years later the small family immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island. They settled in Chicago for almost 70 years, where they raised their three daughters, Anna, Bridget, and Diane. Mike had an early passion for both plants and landscaping which he combined to start his own business. Mike’s landscaping quickly became well known due to his attention to even the smallest details. In retirement, he still enjoyed the meticulous grooming of his yard and was able to maintain it himself, well into his 90s. He was known for his wit, his kind spirit, and the simple joy he found in watching his grand and great-grandchildren play. Mike was preceded in death by his daughters Anna Strusinski and Bridget McConeghy and his son in law Bronislaw Maca. He is survived by his wife Stella, his daughter Diane Maca, and son-in-law Ronald McConeghy. He also leaves behind granddaughters Janette (Paul) Kuhn, Michelle (Christopher) Candelaria, Kristin (Joseph) Bivona, and Lauren McConeghy as well as greatgrandchildren Lauren, Alexander, Payton, Mia, Nicole, and Allison. Visitation will be on Sunday August 28th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. and Monday August 29th 8:00 a.m. until time of funeral 9:30 a.m. at The Oaks Funeral Home 1201 E Irving Park Rd, Itasca to Holy Ghost Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Hillside. This is not a goodbye, but rather until we meet again. He is at peace now making it our turn to go live life to the fullest and keep his legacy alive.
