Biography

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, Madonna Dolan née McMahon – loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother – passed away suddenly at age 81. Donna was born on August 11, 1940 in Chicago, IL to the late William and Norine McMahon. On April 29, 1961, she married John “Jack” Dolan. Together, they welcomed son Michael “Mike” and daughters Madonna and Kathleen “Kate”. Donna had a passion for gardening, and for years maintained a colorful flower garden in the backyard of the home she shared with Jack for more than 50 years. She also loved spoiling her granddaughters and her granddogs with love, attention and food. She had the kind of trusting face and gentle spirit that made it easy to open up, and she’d often find herself drawn into long conversations with strangers who were pulled in by her warmth. As her husband Jack pointed out in the days following her passing, Donna was at the center of her tight-knit family. She gathered everyone together often, made them all feel loved and understood, and never let her crowd go hungry. The void she leaves is significant, but we honor her memory and fill the void best we can by letting her ability to love and care for others serve as a guiding light. Donna was preceded in death by her son Mike; brothers William, Robert and James; and sisters Noreen and Betty. She is survived by her husband Jack; her children Madonna (Joe) Lira, Kate (Scott) Geltner and Mike’s wife Dawn Dolan; her grandchildren Rachel (Drew), Cassie, Alyssa and Emily; and her sister Imelda Lewis. Visitation Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 1:00p.m. with a Service at 11:00 a.m. at The Oaks Funeral Home 1201 E. Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association. For funeral information: 630-250-8588 or www.oaksfh.com
