Dear son of the late Rodrigo and Lilia Garza. Although born in Mexico, Eloy was raised in San Juan, Texas. As the eldest, he dropped out of school at approximately 12 years old to help take care of his parents and siblings. At 25, he and his family moved to Illinois to try and find a better way of life. They later returned to Texas while Eloy remained in the area. Eloy joined the U.S. Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967. Although he was in the army during the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Germany and Okinawa, Japan. During his time in the army, a friend gave Eloy the name and address of a mutual female friend. They started corresponding for a year before ever meeting each other. This friend was Delia who became his wife in 1969, married for 53 years. Having dropped out of school at a young age, Eloy did receive his G.E.D and went on to own his own successful commercial landscaping company for 45+ years where he did his own landscape designs. Eloy was a sports lover. He coached a men’s adult soccer league for many years. He was a die hard Chicago White Sox & Bears fan. You would catch him sitting outside, soaking up the sun while reading the newspaper from top to bottom. He was beyond proud of his grandchildren and beamed when he talked about any of them. Whether it was watching Brianna twirl, Esteban drawing or Idalys’ education and future plans. He loved his grandpups Luna, Star, Roscoe and Titan. He loved watching Wheel of Fortune and novelas on Netflix. His favorite color was green. He was the patriarch/king of both the Garza and Ramirez families. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. Visitation Friday, March 31st 3:00-8:00 pm at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E Irving Park Road (at Prospect) Itasca.
