Elizabeth A. Dobose

Elizabeth Dobose nee Buchholz aged 91 of Itasca, IL passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by her family on September 17th

Born in Chicago to the late Walter and Mabel Buchholz on March 21, 1935. She was the beloved sister to her brothers Bob, the late Bud, the late Bill and sister of the late Doris. She lived in the Ravenswood neighborhood and graduated Lake View High School in 1950.

She met her husband Richard in February of 1958. They soon married on November 29, which was one of the coldest days of the year. It was the start of 67-year marriage, and a beautiful life together that created thousands of lasting memories. She and Richard lived in Chicago until 1970 when they moved to Itasca, where they raised their children … Daughters Laurel Manhoff (Michael), Dorette Masters (Skip) and devoted son Rick. She had three grandchildren, Erik Masters, Ian Masters (Eva) and Margot Messerschmidt (David), and one great-granddaughter Freya Masters.

She was a tremendous cook and baker and was an amazing hostess who loved to entertain large family gatherings and dinner parties. Every holiday and every birthday was an event, and every weekend in the summer there were pool parties. Lots of love and laughter went into every occasion.

She loved all kinds of animals and had great compassion for them, especially her beloved dog Amber. She was an avid reader, a whiz at crossword puzzles, an excellent seamstress and crafter. She also enjoyed many recreational sports like swimming, racquetball and volleyball. She competed in the Chicago Beat the Champs Bowling Tournament and placed second.

She worked as Bank Teller Manager at Itasca State Bank where she enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow workers. Once even joining in on a prank to TP raid a coworkers’ house.

She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved to laugh and had a megawatt smile. She enjoyed a great circle of friends because she was a great friend, who was always willing to listen and help ease any struggle and share every joy. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will take place on October 17th.
