Diane Wokurka, of Lombard IL, passed away on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 in a fatal car accident. She was born October 20th, 1964 in Elmhurst, Illinois to Lester and Marilyn Miller. She grew up in Hillside, IL with her older brother David Miller and they attended Proviso West High School together. Following high school, Diane went on to study 1 year at Triton college as an Art major, and shortly after, she met the love of her life Ken Wokurka. Diane married Ken on October, 12th 1985. They bought their first home in Elmhurst, IL where they had three children Alicia Schaefer, Joshua Wokurka and Vanessa Sabia. They then moved to Lombard, Illinois where she lived for 30 years. She had 4 grandchildren, Brooklyn and Tommy Schaefer and Leah and Leland Sabia. Family meant everything to Diane. She worked at the National Bank of Commerce in Berkeley, IL until 1993. After this, she started her career working at United Airlines. Originally, she started in the cargo department until ~2000 and then shifted to a customer service representative at O’Hare Airport. Throughout her time at United she built lasting friendships with all her coworkers, many of which she would consider family. Diane had many hobbies. She was an exceptional baker who made some of the best chocolate chip cookies out there. She took passion in sewing and reading as her quiet time and loved a good tubby to help her relax. She enjoyed all her sitcoms. Some of the more notable ones were General Hospital, Greys Anatomy, and Chicago Med, Fire and PD to name a few. She enjoyed playing card games with everyone, especially her mother Marilyn. No one ever wanted to play Dutch Blitz with her because she had some of the fastest hands around. She enjoyed listening to music and some of her favorites included Garth Brooks, Ozzy Osbourne, Skillet and many more. Diane and Ken shared their first dance wedding song from the movie Urban Cowboy- “Stand By Me” by Michael Gilley. She loved to be out in the sun and always enjoyed a nice boat ride on Green Lake or the Chain. She also took joy in traveling. One of her favorite and more elaborate schemes was doing a surprise trip with her husband, when he worked at Wiegal Tools, for their 12th anniversary. She kidnapped him and picked him up from work in a limo; they went straight to the airport where they hopped on a flight to Boston. They explored Salem, MA, ate lobster, and went whale watching. Her kids would also get to play hooky from school once a year, where they went to Boston in the morning, had a nice seafood dinner, and flew back the same day. She is survived by her two parents, Marilyn Miller, Bloomingdale, IL, Lester Miller, Lombard, IL; her brother, David Miller (Paula Miller), McHenry, IL; her husband Ken Wokurka, Lombard, IL; her two daughters, Alicia Schaefer (Robert Schaefer), Carol Stream, IL, Vanessa Sabia (Ryan Sabia), Hanover Park, IL; her son, Joshua Wokurka (Mercedes Barata-Larregola), Chicago, IL; her 4 grandchildren, Brooklyn Schaefer, Tommy Schaefer, Leah Sabia, and Leland Sabia, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in laws.
