Dennis R. Milliken, 95, passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 21, 1931, in the Bronx, New York, and raised on the West Side of Chicago, Dennis lived a long, full life rooted in faith, family, and love.
A devoted Catholic, Dennis carried his faith with him throughout his life. His strong values, kindness, and steady presence were a reflection of that lifelong devotion.
Dennis was the proud patriarch of a large and close family. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Milliken, and son-in-law, Steve Davidson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Mary Milliken; his sister, Patricia (the late Bill) Wilde; and his children: Denny Milliken; Terri (Jay) Rios; Tom (Loretta) Milliken; Patti (Joe) Garcarz; Tim (Dannielle) Milliken; Jackie Milliken; Cathy (Frank) Davidson; Mick (Sue) Milliken; and Maureen Milliken.
He was a cherished grandfather to 19 grandchildren: Sean (Danielle) Rios; Katie (Mark) Thomas; Kari (Mike) Laga; Sarah Stanley; Emily Stanley; Colleen (Brett) Davidson; Jillian (Mark) Cardona; Joey (Sylvia) Garcarz; Caitlin (Jeff) Ball; Josh (Michelle) Stanley; Kelly (Brian) Rios; Lauren (Brad) Hagglund; Kwynn Davidson; Jake (Andrea) Stanley; Matthew (Mary) Milliken; Emma (Joseph) Creath; Timmy (Zoey) Milliken; Meghan (Jake) Roth; and Hannah (Matthew) Stanley. His legacy continues through his 27 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Dennis was a proud resident of Elk Grove Village since 1958 and was among its earliest homeowners. He dedicated over 40 years of his career to AT&T and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Dennis was an avid sports fan who loved the Cubs, the Bears, and Premier League soccer. He enjoyed staying active himself through trips to the gym, swimming, and boxing. For 35 years, he and Mary spent their winters in St. Pete’s Beach, Florida, where they created lasting memories together. He also cherished the companionship of many beloved dogs throughout his life.
Dennis often said the secret to life was humor, and he lived that belief every day. Known for his quick wit and charm, he had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. He gave nicknames to those he loved, filled every visit with laughter, and created moments his family will never forget. From playful antics with his grandchildren to the simple joy of making everyone smile just by being himself.
Above all, Dennis considered his greatest accomplishment to be his 73-year marriage to his beloved wife, Mary. Their enduring love was the foundation of the family he cherished so deeply.
Dennis will be remembered for his strength, warmth, humor, and the incredible legacy of love he leaves behind. His life will continue to be celebrated through the many lives he touched, and his faith will remain an enduring part of that legacy.
